Feast day, March 25: The feast of The Annunciation of the Lord, is designated as a solemnity. This marks it is a feast of great importance within the Catholic Church. The feast of The Annunciation celebrates Mary’s ‘yes’ to God, when asked by the Angel Gabriel if she would be the mother of God’s Son, Jesus. Thus, the feast is usually held on the 25 March – nine months before Christmas day – unless this clashes with the date of Easter; in which case the feast of the Annunciation is moved to another suitable day. The Annunciation Gospel passage (Luke 1:26-38), will be studied by several year groups in the RED Branch, Prophecy and Promise.
