The Baptism of the Lord

The feast of the Baptism of Jesus usually takes place on the first Sunday after the Epiphany and commemorates the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan by John the Baptist. Baptism by John was a means by which people repented for wrong choices and turned their life back to God. Jesus had no need to repent, but chose to be baptised as a sign of his solidarity with the people, faithfulness to the Father, and desire to act with righteousness and set an example for us to follow. In this Celebration of the Word, pupils discover how Jesus was
recognised as God the Son, and Saviour of the world.
