We’re aware we have some brilliant supporting schools across England and Wales – whose sharing and prayer supports over 20,000 children living in poverty around the world. But St Basil’s Primary, in the Archdiocese of Liverpool, has gone one step further by establishing the first ever Mission Together Club! We went along to St Basil’s to meet its enthusiastic members.
St Basil’s Mission Together Club was established by RE Coordinator, Mrs Kate Dooley. Kate wanted to help deepen pupils’ understanding of their place within God’s global family, and of our collective mission to share Christ’s love around the world through prayer, solidarity, and generosity.
Prior to establishing the club, Mrs Dooley contacted Mission Together to discuss her ideas. As well as signposting several of our free worship and activity ideas, we posted a pack of Mission Together materials to St Basil’s, and also arranged a visit to one of the club’s after-school meetings.
At the meeting pupils proudly unpacked their club folders, filled with prayer cards, posters, and activity sheets. Pupils explained how the club encourages them to think about the needs of children around the world, and to pray for their sisters and brothers in God’s global family – especially when using their Mission Rosary.
In recognition of their efforts, members of St Basil’s Mission Together Club were then presented with our new mascot, Missio Mouse. The pupils learned that Missio Mouse serves as a reminder that even small actions can make a big difference — just as each of them can play a meaningful part in God’s mission.
