Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country in the continent of Europe. Bosnia, the larger of the two regions, occupies the northern and central parts of the country. Herzegovina occupies the south and southwest. The country has many mountains and almost half of the country is covered in forest. Bosnia and Herzegovina is home to Europe’s last remaining jungle, Perućica. Some of its trees are over 300 years old!

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a diverse country made up of people from different ethnic groups, these include Bosniacs, Serbs, and Croats. The Bosniacs are mostly Muslim, the Serbs are mostly Orthodox Christians, and the Croats are mainly Roman Catholic. Sadly in the past differences between these groups of people have caused difficulties, including war, but there are many in the country who work hard to build peace and bring people together. Family and friendship are highly valued there and storytelling and folk songs are important part of the culture.

As you listen to these children sing their Mission Together hymn, do you think it sounds like a folk song? If yes, how?

As you watch the film, do you think it tells a story? If yes, what story is being told through the pictures you see?
