Mexico

Mexico is a country in the continent of North America, to the north lies the border that separates Mexico from the United States. Mexico is a land of high mountains and deep canyons in the center of the country, sweeping deserts in the north, and dense rain forests in the south and east. Mountains cover much of Mexico.

Mexico was once home to the ancient Mayan people. The Mayans lived around 3000 years ago. They were very clever, they invented languages and excelled in mathematics and sciences. After the Mayans came the Toltec, and the Aztec peoples. These ancient Mexicans built great cities, created remarkable works of art, and even studied the stars and planets to determine when to plant crops.

In the early 1500s, the Spanish arrived in Mexico. They seized and destroyed the Aztec capital and ruled Mexico until 1821. That is why today most Mexican people speak Spanish, in fact more people speak Spanish in Mexico than in Spain! That’s because Mexico is three times bigger than Spain and many more people live there.

Most people in Mexico are Catholic and, through Mission Together, many Mexican children pray and share to help other children around the world. The film below shows different Mission Together events that have taken place in Mexico.
