‘Christ has confidence in young people and entrusts them with the very future of his mission… Go and create a world of brothers and sisters!’ Pope Francis
This October the Catholic Church around the world will observe an Extraordinary Month of Mission. The EMM is an initiative of Pope Francis. Its aim is to encourage all members of our Catholic community to recognise themselves as missionary disciples, working and praying together to share God’s love with everyone, everywhere.
There are four main aims of the Extraordinary Month of Mission:
- To encourage a deeper relationship with Jesus through prayer.
- To be inspired by the actions of our saints, martyrs and living missionaries.
- To increase understanding of mission.
- To increase support of overseas mission.
Our existing resources already meet these aims; we’ve produced a list below highlighting those particularly useful for EMM. But to mark this extraordinary month we’ll be producing new materials too. These will be available to download here in mid-August 2019.
For secondary resources please visit https://missio.org.uk/emm-schools-page/
We are also inviting children in England and Wales to take part in a design a postcard competition, on the theme: ‘Our Mission: To Share God’s Love with the Whole World’. The competition is open to all children aged between 5 and 14. For more information please download the document below.
Existing resources that support the aims of EMM can be found on our Day of Many Colours page. Our Mission Rosary page. And our Pentecost page. The short film Sr Sonia’s Journey, hosted on every webpage is another good EMM resource.
