Year of the Word

Advent 2019 begins the Year of the Word: The God Who Speaks, an initiative of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. It is to be a year of celebrating, living and sharing God’s word.

A great and easy way for schools to get involved is by subscribing to the Wednesday Word.

The Wednesday Word is an accessible double-sided leaflet which carries the Sunday Gospel into school family homes every week. Its mission is to help pupils and their families to draw closer to God, each other, school and Church.

Subscribing schools provide pupils with a Wednesday Word leaflet which they are then asked to take home and read with the rest of the family. Fun and engaging activities are included to help children and parents unpack the Gospel further, together.

The Wednesday Word is designed to act as a regular invitation to the Eucharist throughout the time that the family is connected to the life of the school. It particularly seeks to reach parents who cannot take their children to church regularly nor read the Bible together. If your school hasn’t yet subscribed to Wednesday Word, visit wednesdayword.org for more information and for details on how to subscribe.
